[Letter] 1857 Oct. 31, Alexandria to [John Albert Broadus] / JMB [James Madison Broadus]. 1857.

Attempted to console his brother John on the death of his wife, Maria Carter Broadus. Expressed his satisfaction with the plan Broadus had arranged for his children. "Great as is your loss, there is is much greater. No other human being can fully fill a mother's place." Maria Broadus died Oct. 21, 1857, at age 26, leaving three small daughters.
